Lionel's Adventure

As he walked into the cool dampness and felt the leaves brush his face, he knew he was home. The sounds and smell of the jungle revived him. He already missed his parents, but he knew he was doing the right thing. He walked for several hours trying to get far away before morning. But now he was tired. He wasn't afraid of being alone in the jungle, and found a comfortable spot beneath a tree, spread out his sleeping bag, and went to sleep.

Lionel awoke with a start. He had heard something move in the brush. He could see very well in the dark and noticed a shape moving in the shadows. Then he saw it. A lion! And it was stalking him. Lionel began to tremble. He realized what would happen. He knew a lot about lions from listening to his mother and seeing her work. The lion would suddenly spring and go directly for his throat. The lion did not realize that Lionel could see it and he knew he had only a few seconds before the lion would attack. Lionel tried to unzip his sleeping bag. His hands were shaking and he was fumbling with the zipper. Suddenly the lion pounced!
